The Ultimate Maverick Helicopters Grand Canyon Tour: Everything You Need to Know
Soaring above one of the world’s most iconic landscapes with Maverick Helicopters Grand Canyon tour is nothing short of exhilarating.
Come along with us on our breathtaking journey over one of nature’s most spectacular masterpieces. Forewarning, this ride will have a few surprises.

As we lifted off with Maverick Helicopters we glided over the rugged expanse of a colossal natural wonder. Giving us the opportunity to be treated with panoramic views of the Grand Canyon.
This bird’s-eye view offers a unique perspective that brings the canyon’s majestic beauty into sharp focus.
This was my first helicopter experience. It was my sons too. It was scary taking off but oh so thrilling and worth it.
Sadly, you don’t get to pick where you sit and it’s not first come, first serve. You have to step on a scale once you arrive, taking your weight. Then the pilot of Maverick Helicopters will assign your seat based on weight in the aircraft.
Not going to lie, I was hoping my son and I would be placed in the front. Sadly, we were not.
Sidenote: When we did our helicopter tour, we were asked to wear masks during our flight and we kindly obliged:)

We took the Canyon Spirit tour which departs from Grand Canyon National Airport just outside the south rim of the park.
One of the best moments of the ride was passing through the Kaibab National Forest and all of a sudden, the rim drops, and you are faced with the magnificent views of the Grand Canyon.
My son and the pilot talked about different rock formations and classification for most of the trip. It was like a painting; see all the different colors from above. You even got to see the color of the water change from a beautiful blue to a dark green where the Little Colorado and Colorado Rivers meet.

As we flew through the canyon and climbed above the north rim, the essence of the Grand Canyon’s beauty captivated us, making the trip unforgettable.
The pilot in my opinion did a great job and was very funny but didn’t have to speak because the canyon spoke in her own silent way that displayed such majesty.
Definitely an amazing experience and confirms if I ever get to choose one superpower, I will choose the ability to fly.

Unexpected Maverick Helicopters Grand Canyon Tour Moment
Now for the surprise but not a good one.
The helicopter ride with Maverick Helicopters over the Grand Canyon, was an amazing jaw dropping experience except for one thing. Which I will share to be transparent, but I hope that it does not deter you from experiencing the beauty of the Grand Canyon from the sky.
As stated earlier, Carson and I sat in the back of the helicopter. I was in the middle. There was this nice lady sitting next to me on my right and my son sitting on my left.
The lady sitting next to me vomited about 30 minutes of the trip. Keep in mind, the entire trip is about 45 minutes. I kept handing her puke bags the entire duration of our trip.

For the money I spent on this helicopter ride, I wish I could have done it without the emesis involved.
I personally feel like I missed a lot of the sights because I was taking care of the woman who was sitting beside me.
This by no means was her fault and I am thankful that I am the only one who knew what was going on besides the pilot with Maverick Helicopters- South Rim Grand Canyon.
Thankfully my son remained unaware and did not hear “it” or take notice of the aroma in the air and was able to enjoy the trip. I am forever grateful Carson was spared from the smell and sound of vomiting.

Lastly but very important. Please keep in mind, Maverick Helicopters did not offer an option to tip by credit card before or after the trip. Therefore, I recommend bringing cash if you want to tip your pilot after the flight.
“The glories and beauties of form, color, and sound united in the Grand Canyon”.

After Maverick Helicopters Grand Canyon:
Below is a list of posts to continue reading about our adventures in Arizona and an overall summary of our trip.
Carson and I got to experience the beauty of Arizona. The hills, mountains, red rocks and desert terrain captivated us throughout its change in scenery. We took up our wings in a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, did some hiking, went glamping, saw the red rocks from the sky, and experienced the outback off-road. Overall, this was a great, very memorable vacation.
If you have more time than we did, I have a few recommendations below:
One
I recommend staying a couple more days in Sedona to do a few more different hiking trails. I would also have added one more day at the Grand Canyon too for another day of hiking.
Two
If you have even a few more days you can push on top of that, then I would recommend going to Page Arizona to Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend and then into Utah to Lake Powell (rent a jet ski for the day).
Three
If you need a good car break between Sedona and the Grand Canyon, I recommend Bearizona in Williams, AZ.
Bearizona is a great place to stop. This attraction provided the perfect leg break from the car after we finished the drive-through attraction. If you have never seen a live bear in the wild, this would provide a great safe opportunity because bears are free to roam the drive-through exhibit.
