The park’s signature feature is its slippery rock waterslide, formed by Oak Creek. The smooth rocks create a fun, natural ride for visitors looking to cool off during hot summer days. Kids and adults alike can enjoy sliding down the rocks, laughing all the way to the refreshing pool below.

The enchanting features of Slide Rock State Park was originally part of an apple farm located in Oak Creek Canyon which was part of the Pendley Homestead but after it was sold it became a vital contribution to the growth of tourism in the area.

For history enthusiasts, Slide Rock still has remnants of this rich agricultural era. Take a stroll through the historic apple orchard and learn about the farming practices that shaped the area.

Slide Rock State Park in Sedona Arizona offers a way to stay cool and have a day of fun in the Sedona sun.

The algae-covered rocks offer an exhilarating natural red rockslide about 80 feet long that is propelled by a natural current and is slippery due to the algae or bring a raft and enjoy one of the swimming holes.

The water will be cold, but it is definitely worth a dip. We even spotted a few adults doing jumps into the water off some of the higher red rocks.

There are no lifeguards on duty and the water can be swift, so keep an eye on your loved ones.

I recommend water shoes, as walking over algae-covered rocks can be slippery. However, this makes the natural water slide fun. When you’re ready to dry off, bring a blanket and a picnic. Find a shaded rock along the slide to set up your lounge spot for the day.

Planning your visit? Be sure to arrive early, especially during the summer months, as the park can get busy. Parking spots are limited, and the line can be long so I would recommend visiting early or during off-peak times.  Parking fees can vary, so it’s best to check online before you set off on your adventure to the watering hole. The park’s facilities include restrooms, picnic areas, and ample parking, making it a convenient spot for a day trip.

Slide Rock State Park is a perfect destination for families, outdoor lovers, and nature photographers. Whether you’re hiking, swimming, or simply relaxing by the creek, it’s an unforgettable experience. Don’t forget to pack a picnic to enjoy by the water or take in the park’s peaceful atmosphere.

So, if you’re seeking adventure, natural beauty, and fun for the whole family, Slide Rock State Park is a must-visit destination in Sedona. Experience the magic of Arizona’s red rocks and make unforgettable memories at this stunning natural wonder.

Below is a list of posts to continue reading about our adventures in Arizona and an overall summary of our trip.

Carson and I got to experience the beauty of Arizona. The hills, mountains, red rocks and desert terrain captivated us throughout its change in scenery. We took up our wings in a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, did some hiking, went glamping, saw the red rocks from the sky, and experienced the outback off-road. Overall, this was a great, very memorable vacation.

If you have more time than we did, I have a few recommendations below:

One

I recommend staying a couple more days in Sedona to do a few more different hiking trails. I would also have added one more day at the Grand Canyon too for another day of hiking.

Two

If you have even a few more days you can push on top of that, then I would recommend going to Page Arizona to Antelope CanyonHorseshoe Bend and then into Utah to Lake Powell (rent a jet ski for the day).

Three

If you need a good car break between Sedona and the Grand Canyon, I recommend Bearizona in Williams, AZ.

Bearizona is a great place to stop. This attraction provided the perfect leg break from the car after we finished the drive-through attraction. If you have never seen a live bear in the wild, this would provide a great safe opportunity because bears are free to roam the drive-through exhibit.
